Bhoutan – Dragon Tour
Set off to discover Bhutan, a kingdom nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, where ancient Buddhist traditions, breathtaking landscapes, and the warm hospitality of its people promise an unforgettable journey. This 11-day tour takes you from the fertile valleys of Paro and Bumthang to the spectacular passes of Dochu La and Pele La, passing through ancient dzongs (fortress-monasteries) and villages preserved by time.
Itinéraire
Day 1: Kathmandu/Paro or Delhi/Paro
Transfer to the airport for the Kathmandu/Paro or Delhi/Paro flight, followed by a welcome and transfer to Kyichu Resort or a similar hotel. In the afternoon, visit Ta-Dzong, the National Museum, and Paro Rinpung Dzong.
Day 2: Paro
Hike through villages and pine forests to visit the magnificent Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff 600 meters above the Paro Valley. Approximately 4 hours of walking. Overnight at Kyichu Resort or a similar hotel.
Day 3: Paro – Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Visit the Memorial Chorten dedicated to King Jigmé Dorji Wangchuk, the 15th-century Changangkha Monastery, and the Drupthob Nunnery Temple. Overnight at RiverView Hotel or Peaceful Resort.
Day 4: Thimphu
Walking visit to Tango Monastery. Approximately 1-hour hike to explore the 17th-century Tango Monastery. In the afternoon, visit the Painting School and the National Library. Overnight at RiverView Hotel or Peaceful Resort.
Day 5: Thimphu – Punakha – Wangdiphodrang
Drive to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan until 1955, crossing the Dochu La Pass (3,100 m) with beautiful views of the Himalayas. Visit Punakha Dzong. Then continue to Wangdiphodrang and visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong. Overnight at Kyichu Resort or Pema Karpo Hotel.
Day 6: Wangdiphodrang – Tongsa – Bumthang
Drive to Tongsa via Pele La Pass (3,400 m), passing through scattered hamlets and rhododendron and pine forests, with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Visit its fortress, Tongsa Dzong (note: visitors are not allowed inside the fortress). Continue to Bumthang, stopping en route at the Chume Weaving Centre. Overnight at Lhendupcholing Guesthouse or a similar accommodation.
Day 7: Bumthang
Visit Jakar Dzong, the 7th-century Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang Monastery, and Tamshing Lhakhang. Overnight at Lhendupcholing Guesthouse or a similar accommodation.
Day 8: Bumthang – Ura
Drive to the village of Ura (2-hour drive) and visit the monastery. En route, visit Mebar Tso Lake. Walk around the village and return to Bumthang. Overnight at Lhendupcholing Guesthouse or a similar accommodation.
Day 9: Bumthang – Gangtey Gompa
Drive to Gangtey Gompa and visit the only Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan. Overnight at Dewachen Hotel or Gakiling Guesthouse.
Day 10: Gangtey – Thimphu – Paro
Early in the morning, drive to Thimphu and then to Paro. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest building in Bhutan, which serves as a Buddhist university. Overnight at Kyichu Resort or a similar hotel.
Day 11: Paro – Kathmandu / Delhi
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Kathmandu or Delhi, followed by a welcome and transfer to the hotel.
